Late Medieval/Early Italian Renaissance
Giotto's work shows an important step toward Renaissance humanism. Note his use of color, individual-humans and realism, incorporation of quazi realistic architecture. In short, we are stepping away from iconography and toward humanism. Most of the below decorate the Basilica of Saint Francis, in Assisi, Italy.
