CLIMATE CHANGE ECOLOGY
GEOGRAPHY 430
SPRING 2017
UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO
Climate change is happening and is expected to continue in the future.
Warming, droughts, flooding, sea level rise, and ocean acidification have
effects on the ecosystems of the world. Ecosystems also affect future climate
through carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions and modification of surface
properties such as reflectance.
Climate change ecology is the study
of the interaction between climate change and biology, both the effects
of climate change on organisms and the feedback from ecosystems to climate.
In this class, we will explore the magnitudes and drivers of impacts
to ecosystems as well as the capacity for ecosystems to mitigate future
climate change. We will discuss both past changes and future projections.
We will cover the range of affected ecosystems and discuss changes in
Idaho, the western United States, and the world.
