An array of geophysical techniques have been performed in the Alvord Basin to determine the nature and orientation of structural features (e.g., faults) that give rise to the occurrence of hot springs at the land surface. Seismic, magnetic, and gravity studies have been conducted on both basin and local scales to characterize subsurface structures. Additional work with a terrestrial laser scanner - mapping offsets in ancient shoreline terraces - has provided estimates of displacement rates on active faults within the basin. The results can be viewed by accessing the links to the right.
