Application of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer in the design of thermal energy systems. Topics include engineering economy, thermal energy system component analysis and selection, component and system simulation, and system optimization. Students use the knowledge gained in the course to design a physical system at the end of the semester in a real world application.
Study of green engineering and industrial ecology in the design, commercialization, and use of engineering solutions. Emphasis is on recycling, reducing wastes in industrial processes and manufacturing, life cycle assessments, and the importance of assessing environmental impacts.
