Resource selection studies may be as old as wildlife science, but it was
in the 1970's that interest in formal statistical evaluation of such studies
became more common. Since that time many methods for analysis of resource
selection have been proposed. These methods have been evaluated, criticized,
modified and extended in the wildlife and statistical science literature.
Nevertheless, the debate continues over the problems associated with making
biological sense out of statistical analysis of resource selection studies.
In this discussion, I review some history of resource selection studies,
discuss competing design and analysis methods, and invite suggestions for
future development.
