Statistical Methods used in developing "Basic Strategy" or "Zero Memory Strategy" rules for playing blackjack are defined and demonstrated for the player's options of standing, drawing, doubling, pair splitting, insurance, and surrender. One-dimensional card-counting strategies are used to identify decks that are favorable to the player so that the player can determine when to increase his bet size and to identify when it is profitable to modify the playing strategy to deviate from the "Basic Strategy." Correlation coefficients are used for evaluating betting efficiency and strategic playing variation efficiency. Proper and error-free application of the best one-level card counting strategy can produce a player's expected gain near 2% of the amount wagered, in the absence of dealer cheating.
