ME 490 - Advanced SOLIDWORKS

Solid modeling is one of the core languages of design. It allows for enhanced communication within the design team, and between clients and customers. Knowing this language proficiently can dramatically speed up the design and communication process. This technical elective course builds from skills learned in ME 290 and is designed to further enhance your solid modeling skill set, manufacturing knowledge, and employment marketability. During this course, we will prepare and take at least seven SOLIDWORKS certification exams. Often interns and associate engineers start work by learning their company's CAD software. These certifications will illustrate to employers that you already know how to use SOLIDWORKS, and if SOLIDWORKS is not their CAD software you will at the very least have critical thinking skills that will transfer to all CAD software. We will also be working in a machine shop most Fridays. This will increase your mechanical design capabilities by showing you what can be manufactured and how long that might take.
