Plant, Soil, and Entomological Sciences

1. Stephen Guy (2008) left for Washington State University with a substantial salary increase.

 

2. Phil Berger (2003) left for a job with USDA.

 

3. Edward Souza (2006) to USDA for better pay.

4. Jim Lorenzen (2006) to better paying international position

5. Jeffrey Miller left for a better paying job in private industry

6. Bryan Hopkins left for better paying job at Brigham Young University.

7. Markus Tuller (2007) left for better support at the University of Arizona.

8. John Lloyd (2006) left for better job in private industry

9. John Fellman left for a 20 percent increase in salary

10. Wesley Chun (2007) went to private industry for better pay

 

11. Scott Fendorf (1998) left for a better job at Stanford University.

 

12. Brad Geary (2003) left the Parma Research Station for Brigham Young University for better pay.

 

13. Mack Thompson (2003) left the Parma Research Station Pioneer in Iowa for better pay.


Generally, this department is experiencing a 20 percent attrition rate, and currently many faculty members are actively seeking positions elsewhere.

History

Political Science

16. Brandon Rottinghaus (2006) left for the University of Houston

Sociology and Anthropology

17. George Capowich (1998) left for Washington State University. Better pay and a Ph.D. program.

Physics

18. Rex Gandy (2003) to University of Southern Mississippi.

Chemistry

19. Nick Natale  (June, 2007) leaving for the University of Montana for a substantial salary increase (ca. $12,000 pa) and better facilities.  UI counter offer amounted to $162 per year of Natale's UI service!

20. Jeanne McHale (2004) left for Washington State University for a salary increase and vastly superior research support.

21. Steve Gammon (2002) left Western Washington University, where he got a better salary and improved working conditions.

Materials Science

22. Yank-Ki Hong (2006) to endowed chair at the University of Alabama.  He had brought in a total of $5 million dollars in research funds to the UI.

23. Patrick Taylor (2000) went to the University of Tennessee because of lack of institutional support.

24. Sarit Bhaduri (2006) went to Clemson University for a better paid endowed position.

Biological Sciences

25. Graham Young  (2004) to the University of Washington

 

26. Kathy Magnusson (2005) to Oregon State University

 

27. Steve Austad (2004) to University of Texas Health Science Center

 

28. R. Frank Rosensweig (2000) to the University of Florida

 

29. Roberta Mason-Gamer (2001) to the University of Illinois-Chicago

Substantial attrition in this department and many are seeking employment elsewhere.  Many searches to fill positions fail primarily because the UI was not offering competitive salaries.

41. Hao Sun left for Purdue University

42. Jennie Nelson went to Ohio University

43. Grace Moore was hired away by the University of Melbourne

Philosophy

45. Michael Nelson (2006) left for Michigan State for more money, fewer classes, and better research conditions.

College of Natural Resources

46. Stephanie Hampton (2006) left for better pay and lack of spousal accommodation for a non-university position at a research institute in Santa Barbara.

Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Biochemistry

47. Philip Youderian went to Texas A&M for higher pay, more support, and more space.


48. Kenneth Bayles left for the University of Nebraska for higher pay, more support, and more space.


49. Zhixiang Chen accepted a position at Purdue University with higher pay, more support, and more space.

 

50. Kurt Gustin (2008) left with his grants for University of Arizona because poor administration.


51. Scott Kobayashi (2008) went to the NIH labs in Hamilton, Montana because of poor administration.   
 

52. Gary Daughdrill left for the University of South Florida taking a NSF and an American Cancer Society grant with him. He was denied tenure even though he had positive votes at all levels of the university.

 

Civil Engineering

 

53. John Buffington (2005) left for the Forest Service

 

54. Klaus Jorde (2007)

 

55. John Sturgul (2008) left for the University of Adelaide because the UI foolishly closed the mining engineering program.

 

Computer Science

 

56. Deborah Frincke (2004) left for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory for better working environment.

 

Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance

57. Randy Page (2003) moved on for better pay, and more research time and support.

 

58. Dennis Dolny (2008) left for Utah State for better pay and conditions.

 

Family and Consumer Science

 

59. Marilyn Swanson (1996) left for South Dakota State University for career enhancement and leadership opportuinity. Now the Senior Nutrition Consultant for Save the Children.

 

60.  Ann Vail (1996) went to Iowa State University for better pay and leadership opportunity.
 

61. Yvonne Gentzler (1999) went to Iowa State University for better pay.

 

62. Kathy Keim went to Rush University for better pay.

 

63. Martha Archuleta (1997) left for South Dakota State University for better pay.

 

64. Suzanne Loker (1998) went to Cornell University for better pay.

 

65. John Thorngate (2000) went to University of California at Davis for better pay, more support, and better research opportunities.

 

66. Linda Kirk Fox (2002) went to Washington State University for better pay.

 

67. Laurel Lambert (2004) went to Mississippi State University for better pay and job security.

 

68. Mary Pickard (2005) went to East Carolina University for better pay and more support.

74. Richard Vandervall (2008) left for the University of Pennsylvania for higher pay and more support.  Bruce Lancaster, former president of the Idaho Vet. Med. Association, said that getting support for a widely acclaimed mule cloning program was like "pulling teeth."

 

75. Gordon Woods (2007) left for Colorado State University.
