Over many years the von Wandruszka group has worked in the following areas:
- Electrochemistry – especially ultrafast chronoamperometry
- Surface Active Materials – especially the clouding of nonionic surfactants
- Humic Materials – especially their aggregation and redox chemistry
- Remote Detection of Explosives – using fluorescence quenching techniques
In recent times, the focus has shifted to the chemical analysis of archaeological artifacts. In this work, we identify
and characterize historical materials and artifacts that are sent to us by archaeologists from all across North America.
They come from universities, city governments, museums, state and federal agencies, research institutes, and firms
that are involved in archaeological assessment. The questions to be answered are usually these:
- What is this?
- Who used it?
- What was it used for?
- Why was it used?
Apart from chemical analyses, the work also involves archival research covering the period from the beginning of the
18th to the middle of the 20th century.
