Lab Facilities

RSML has a fully functional shared lab space within the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory at the Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES) and Center for Higher Education Building at the UI, Idaho Falls campus.

RSML owns the following equipment:

  • A modular entrained flow catalytic fast pyrolysis (CFP) reactor for bioenergy (e.g., bio-oil and biochar) production
  • An Industrial Sonomechanics LSP 500 with full-wave barbell horn and continuous flow-through configuration for upgrading untreated bio-oil samples via ultrasonic cavitation

Computational Tools: The software available for students within the UI College of Engineering includes SolidWorks, MATLAB, Simulink, LabVIEW, Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, etc.

Analytical Instruments: As a shared and fully functional lab, some of the instruments in the lab belongs to UofI, and some of the equipment belongs to CAES and Idaho National Lab, whereas students from all institutions use the equipment for their projects/courses.

Manufacturing Facilities: RSML has access to the following facilities at the Manufacturing and Robotics Teaching Laboratory (MRTL) at the College of Eastern Idaho (CEI):

RSML has access to the following multi-user U 0f I equipment:
