Laminar Premixed Flame Propagation

Laminar flame speed is one of the fundamental properties characterizing the global combustion of a fuel/oxidizer mixture. Therefore, at the global level, laminar flame speed data have been widely used to validate a proposed chemical reaction mechanism. A schematic of the counterflow burner used to measure flame propagation velocities using particle image velocimetry is shown below. The twin burner nozzles are on the extreme right of the image.

Laminar Premixed Flame Extinction

Extinction stretch rate, on the other hand, represents a kinetics-affected phenomenon and characterizes the interaction between a characteristic flame/flow time to a chemical time.
